Arab Weather - The Kingdom continued to be affected on Sunday by a state of atmospheric instability, which caused thunderstorms in different regions, especially in the north and center of the Kingdom. These rains were heavy in narrow geographical areas, which led to the flow of valleys and ravines, especially in the northern and central Jordan Valley region.
According to the rainfall report issued by the Meteorological Department, the Deir Alla area in Balqa Governorate recorded heavy rainfall on Sunday, reaching 37 mm in a short period of time, which means 37 liters of water falling per square meter. This caused floods and heavy flow of valleys and ravines, which explains the danger of unstable weather conditions, which are usually characterized by suddenness and are accompanied by a high rate of rainfall in narrow geographical areas.
According to the meteorological report, the Deir Alla region achieved 14% of the entire rainy season in less than 24 hours, as a result of the heavy rainfall recorded.
Unstable weather conditions pose a risk in some areas, as they may lead to flash floods resulting from heavy rainfall in narrow areas and for short periods of time, especially in mountainous and rocky areas, where rainwater flows from the highlands into valleys. Previous dry seasons also increase the likelihood of floods forming, as rainwater does not easily penetrate the soil, but rather collects on the surface and quickly flows into valleys and channels designated for floods. Therefore, flood channels should be monitored and valleys and low-lying areas should be avoided in the event of unstable weather conditions or depressions.
