Arab Weather - The Kingdom has been affected since the beginning of this week by a cold wave resulting from an extension of a high pressure system of Siberian origin, where very cold weather prevailed during the daytime hours with active eastern winds at times, while it was very cold during the night hours. Minimum temperatures reached around zero degrees Celsius in large areas of the Kingdom, and below zero in parts of the eastern plains and the desert, which were most affected by the effects of the cold wave.
Maximum temperatures during the cold wave were recorded at around 14-15 degrees Celsius in the Amman Civil Airport area, while they were lower than that over the high mountainous areas. While minimum temperatures dropped at night to around zero degrees Celsius in large areas of the Kingdom, especially over the eastern plains and Badia areas. The lowest minimum temperatures were recorded on Monday morning 16/12/2024 at Queen Alia International Airport -0.5, Mafraq -0.5, and Amman Civil Airport 1.5 degrees Celsius.
As the cold wave recedes starting from Tuesday, maximum temperatures rise slightly to around 17 degrees Celsius, and the rise increases on Wednesday and Thursday, but it is slight, as the maximum reaches around 18 degrees in the east of the capital, Amman. The weather is less cold than it was during the cold wave.
Despite the expected rise in minimum temperatures in the coming nights, they will remain cold to very cold, especially in the eastern plains, where they range in the capital Amman between 5-6 degrees Celsius. Therefore, "Arab Weather" advises wearing heavy clothing to cope with the cold at night and early morning hours, especially in the high mountainous areas and eastern plains.
God knows best.
