The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation added that the strategic plan of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, consistent with the Jordan 2025 Document, includes achieving comprehensive sustainability of water resources and achieving an integrated will for its sources, and this requires effective participation and effort from various international bodies and bodies, stressing the need to take strict measures to reduce pollution and implement projects that prevent Wastewater access to groundwater sources and the exploitation of non-traditional sources of water in order to relieve pressure on groundwater and reduce the quantities extracted from it, stressing that Jordan depends on groundwater in a very large proportion of the quantities of water used for all purposes, which confirms the value and importance of managing the remaining groundwater resources Giving it the highest priority in addition to the challenges of pollution risks and cases of drought, in addition to paying attention to the economic feasibility of extracting groundwater, managing drinking wells and monitoring the quality of groundwater.

 

Dr. Jihad Al-Mahamid said that the Ministry of Water and Irrigation has taken great strides in this regard, as it has set up a system to monitor the groundwater resources to organize the management of groundwater resources. It has also taken effective measures with regard to industrial wastewater and the expansion of the sewage services network in the Kingdom to cover the majority of the population, and that the Ministry is continuing its developmental policy.

 

For her part, Rebecca Behls, Project Director of the German Federal Institute (BGR) indicated the importance of protecting ground and surface water resources in Jordan in light of the Kingdom's scarcity of this vital resource that the Jordanian and German governments are working to improve through bilateral cooperation between the two countries. For his part, Assistant Secretary-General for Information Omar Salama said that the importance of such awareness campaigns to rationalize water consumption and preserve groundwater comes within the ministry’s strategy aimed at providing additional quantities of water to citizens, noting that coordination has been carried out in all governorates of the Kingdom, starting with the capital governorate, to participate effectively in working on The success of this campaign.

 

He added that the campaign will focus on disseminating facts and information aimed at creating a national, societal culture to benefit from every drop of water and to reduce some wrong behaviors, in addition to harvesting rainwater in collecting wells and benefiting from it at all times, in addition to raising awareness of the damages of connecting gutters to sewage networks, which leads to Flooding and the effects of this on the formation of environmental foci.

 

Salama called on all civil and official institutions and citizens to participate and contribute to the dissemination of the campaign through all means, except to ensure the achievement of the desired goals of the campaign.

 

It is noteworthy that the current groundwater resources management project aims to support the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and water companies to enable them to optimally manage groundwater resources. The project includes four main axes: the management of drinking wells, the second, monitoring the quality of groundwater, the third, the economic feasibility of groundwater extraction, and finally the axis of community awareness through the dissemination of culture Water awareness among different segments.
