Weather of Arabia - The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture said that the average rainfall in various regions of the Kingdom in April 2023 AD recorded an exceptional and record level of 31.81 mm, which is the highest average recorded in 40 years according to the records available to the Ministry, which amounted to 13.13 mm, and higher than The average for April 2022 AD, which was 9.23 mm.

 

The hydrological report for the month of April, issued by the Ministry to monitor the amounts of precipitation and the volume of incoming and outgoing torrential waters from the dams, indicated that the number of rainy days during this month reached 26 days, covering most regions of the Kingdom.

 

And the ministry indicated, in a statement, that the highest number of rain readings was recorded in one day, with 137 readings, on April 25, and the highest rain reading was recorded on April 14 at the Shaab Ahmed station in the Asir region, amounting to 79 mm. Rain stations of the Ministry of Water Agency and the National Center of Meteorology, which recorded 353 readings, and the number of readings amounted to 2163 readings.

 

The report indicated that the volume of torrents received for 146 of the existing dams in the regions of the Kingdom during April 2023 amounted to 118 million cubic meters, and compared to last year, the existing dams harvested 12.2 million cubic meters during April 2022 AD.

 

The report pointed out that the dams of the Asir region had the largest share of incoming torrents with more than 28.5 million cubic meters, and the highest incoming torrents for the Najran Dam in the Najran region amounted to 20.59 million cubic meters, and the Bish Dam in Jazan region with 14 million cubic meters, and nearly 14 million cubic meters were discharged. 57.7 million cubic meters from all dams during the month of April; With the aim of feeding the farmers’ wells and preserving the vegetation cover, the highest discharge was in the Najran Dam in the Najran region with a rate of 20.44 million cubic meters, followed by the Baish Dam in the Jazan region with a rate of 4 million cubic meters.

 

The ministry noted that it is working, starting from the current month of May, to implement the operational plan for the dams by opening the gates for irrigation purposes, and based on the agricultural seasons, while maintaining the safe limit of water allocated for drinking purposes.
