موقع ArabiaWeather.com - رامي محمد - أجرت مؤسسة  Global Ocean Commission دراسة بينت فيها بأن المحيطات تقوم بدور كبير يخدم سكان كوكب الأرض، بحيث توفر من 74 حتى 222 مليار دولار سنوياً و حجم ضخم جداً من العمل الشاق لإزالة الكربون من الغلاف الجوي.

 

وأظهرت الدراسة أن الكائنات المائية في المحيطات تقوم بتخزين كمية هائلة من الكربون في الغلاف الجوي تصل إلى 550 مليون طن سنوياً.

 

وتجدر الإشارة أن المحيطات لن تستمر بأداء هذه الوظائف الغاية في الأهمية إذا ما أستمر الإنسان في إستنزافها من خلال تدمير الشعب المرجانية أثناء الصيد و جعلها بيئة خصبة للملوثات الكيميائية.
