ArabiaWeather.com - Khitam Amer - Egypt is currently implementing its first projects that rely on the use of alternative energy represented by wind for power generation, away from dependence on fossil fuels, which is called the "Zafarana" station.
This station is the largest of its kind on the continent of Africa and the most productive in the world, as a result of the strong winds blowing throughout the year in the Red Sea coast region, where it is planned that 20% of electricity will be produced through renewable energy sources such as wind and solar energy by 2020.
The size of the Zaafarana plant project, which is located about 120 km south of the city of Suez, amounts to 700 wind power plants, with an annual production of electricity of 1400 gigawatt-hours. Zaafarana, in turn, reduces carbon dioxide emissions by about 800,000 tons per year. general.
The Red Sea coast is considered one of the best places for producing wind energy, as the potential available in Egypt for producing energy from wind is estimated at about 20,000 megawatts, which is equivalent to the capacity of 16 nuclear power plants.
