Weather of Arabia - Dr. Abdullah Al-Misnad, former climate professor at Qassim University and Vice President of the Saudi Weather and Climate Society, confirmed that the earthquake that the Hail region witnessed today is a natural phenomenon, especially since the region is located above hundreds of dormant volcanoes.

Al-Misnad explained through his account on the “X” platform that light and tangible earthquakes in the Hail region, especially southwest of Hail, recur over relatively long periods of time. He added that the region contains hundreds of ancient dormant volcanoes, and the most recent volcanic eruption may date back to about 1,000 years ago in Harrat Bani Rashid, which is located 160 km southwest of Hail.
Al-Misnad pointed out that these tangible earthquakes are weak and do not pose a danger to humans or infrastructure. He explained that there are many earthquakes in the imperceptible area, the strength of which is less than 3 degrees on the Richter scale, and they occur more frequently in the area of Al-Shuwaymis and Dardhat and around them.
He added that the central region of Saudi Arabia is geologically considered the most stable in the Kingdom, as seismic activity there is weak. He also provided an explanation of the types of earthquakes and their different effects, noting that earthquakes with a magnitude of 3.5 are barely perceptible, while earthquakes with a magnitude of 8.9 can cause almost total destruction.
