Arab Weather - Meteorologists at the Arab Weather Regional Center are following up on the latest numerical computer model outputs, which indicate that Iraq will be affected by a cold air mass coming from the north at the end of this week, starting on Friday. This air mass will result in fundamental changes in the weather and a return to winter cold.
In detail, initial indicators indicate that Iraq will be affected, starting Friday 12/13/2024, by a cold air mass that will begin in the northern and western regions during the day, where temperatures will drop and cold weather will prevail with the appearance of clouds. There is a chance for showers of rain to fall in the far north of the country, and due to the specificity of those areas and the cooling of the air mass, the rain will be in the form of snow over the mountain peaks in the border areas adjacent to Turkey and Iran.
As for the capital Baghdad and the southern regions, temperatures tend to decrease, but remain higher than their average for this time of year. Thus, the effects of the cold air mass remain far from the center and south of the country, and the winds are northwesterly and moderate in speed. However, during the hours of Friday/Saturday night, the effect of the cold air mass is expected to deepen towards central Iraq, including the capital, where a radical change in the atmosphere will occur and the weather will become cold in all regions, and the differences between day and night will be around 14 degrees Celsius.
Preliminary data show that the cold air mass will deepen its influence on Iraq on Saturday and Sunday, causing temperatures to drop further and become around or slightly lower than their average for this time of year. The weather will be cold in the north and west of the country, and relatively cold in the rest of the regions.
Clouds will increase in the northern regions, with showers of rain falling in the form of snow on the mountain peaks in the border areas adjacent to Turkey and Iran. The winds will be northwesterly, active in speed, causing dust waves.
You will be provided with more details in the coming days, God willing.
And God knows best.
