Chinese language in Saudi schools (details)

Arab Weather - Saudi schools in 6 educational departments (Riyadh, Yanbu, Eastern Province, Jeddah, Jazan, and Tabuk) received a group of Chinese teachers participating in the implementation of the national project to teach the Chinese language to male and female students. Start teaching Chinese language in Saudi schools

Chinese will be taught in schools starting this academic year, with the subject being mandatory for students but not counted towards their GPA, giving them the opportunity to learn the language without the pressure of academic assessment. According to Asharq Al-Awsat, 57 schools in Riyadh, 41 in Jeddah, 25 in Jazan and five in Khobar have been selected to teach Chinese.

Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat, Maryam Al-Surai’, principal of the Second Intermediate School in Sabya, explained that the school celebrated the arrival of the Chinese teacher on Monday, where students welcomed her with flowers and welcoming phrases in Chinese. A reception was organized that reflected Saudi hospitality, and the principal stressed the importance of finding a common language between the students and the teacher, through the support of a team led by the English language teacher.

Sun Shai, one of the Chinese teachers who started teaching in Jazan, expressed her happiness with the warm welcome and hospitality she received from the students and her colleagues at the school, stressing that she underwent intensive tests and training before coming to Saudi Arabia to qualify her to teach.

Objectives of teaching Chinese language in Saudi Arabia

By introducing Chinese teachers to schools, the Saudi Ministry of Education seeks to exchange cultures, enhance understanding between students and teachers, and raise the level of education through diverse and high-quality educational experiences, in line with the goals of Vision 2030 to strengthen international relations.
