Weather of Arabia - A video documented the moment the Saudi traveler Wael Al-Daghfaq and his companions survived a strong lightning strike in the Al-Qahr Mountains in Al-Reith Governorate, east of Jazan. In the video, which was published by the former professor of climate at Qassim University on his account on the “X” platform, Wael Al-Daghfaq appears sitting with a group of people, where They were surprised by a strong lightning strike near them.

Al-Dagfaq commented on the incident, saying:

“The closest lightning bolt we encountered during our travels was only 15 meters between us and it. Thank God we took the necessary precautions before that extreme weather event.” He added: "What is surprising is that after the white lightning bolt, yellow sparks appeared in the air, as if something was burning, not in the rocks, but from the impact of the lightning bolt."

Jazan and Al-Sawaiq region

Dr. Al-Misnad pointed out that the Jazan region is characterized by a geographical location that makes it witness the highest density of lightning and lightning in Saudi Arabia, at a rate of 55 flashes per square kilometer annually, which is higher than the average lightning strike in all countries of Europe and North Africa. He concluded by recommending the installation of lightning rods in residential, governmental and commercial buildings in Jazan to prevent lightning strikes, and advised taking the necessary precautions during severe thunderstorms, whether by staying in protected places or inside the car for safety.

At the conclusion of his speech, Al-Misnad shared his unique experience of witnessing violent thunderstorms and lightning strikes in Jizan, stressing that he had not witnessed such scenes in more than 80 countries he had visited, which highlights the beauty and distinctiveness of this region.
