Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory noted that over the past decade, the world has seen five powerful storms that can be classified according to the new scale, “Category 6,” which is the new classification for hurricanes. This category includes all storms with sustained winds exceeding 309 kilometers per hour.

Studies have shown that massive hurricanes like these are becoming more likely due to increasing global warming and rising ocean and atmospheric temperatures.

Regarding this phenomenon, scientist Michael Weiner from Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory said: “The wind speed of 309 kilometers per hour is faster than most Ferraris, and it is difficult to even imagine it. If you happened to be exposed to this type of tornado, it would be very dangerous.” ".

The study, published in the journal "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences," proposes a modification to the hurricane scale, where it is suggested that the first category be between 119 and 153 kilometers per hour, and reaches the fifth category when wind speeds exceed 254 kilometers per hour, while the sixth category is added. For winds exceeding 309 kilometers per hour.
