This comes at a time when new government statistics in Britain indicate that about 2.1 million people in the country suffer from Corona, and about 3.3% of the population suffer from long-term Covid, which limits their ability to perform daily activities.

In a report published last September, the World Health Organization announced that at least 19 million people in Europe suffer from long-term Covid, and millions may have to live with it for years to come.

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington School of Medicine in the United States revealed that during the first two years of the pandemic, an estimated 17 million people met the World Health Organization criteria for symptoms of long-term corona, which lasted a period of at least three months.

It noted a staggering 307% increase in long-term Covid cases between 2020 and 2021. Females were twice as likely than males to have long-term COVID-19.

The reason why the injury persists for a long time

The British newspaper, The Independent, indicates that the patient had a weak immune system due to a kidney transplant, so it was difficult for him to resist the effects of Corona. Doctors in London tried to treat the patient with antibodies, but he did not respond.

The patient had contracted the Corona virus, in December of 2020, and the test results remained positive, despite the absence of symptoms. In order to help treat him, doctors tried to search for the strain he was infected with, and the extent to which it interacted in the cells of his body. According to the British newspaper, “The Sun”, it is very likely that the patient was infected with the original alpha strain of the virus, so he was given the mixture of antibodies to Covid-19 developed by the pharmaceutical company “Regeneron”, which allowed his body to get rid of the virus.

Public health doctor Luke Senal talks to the newspaper about the failure of some antibiotics to treat the Corona virus, pointing out that some new types of the virus are resistant to all antibody treatments available in Britain and Europe. Therefore, some people with weakened immune systems are still at risk of developing serious illnesses and catching infections.

There is no clear definition of long-term Covid. According to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), the long-term Covid is a new phenomenon.
