Google launches virtual roaming service for the pyramids of Egypt

ArabiaWeather.com - Google has launched a panoramic virtual tour of the Pyramids of Giza, in addition to images of 5 other important archaeological and tourist sites in Egypt.

To accomplish this project, Google used the Trekker device, which includes a system of cameras that are worn on the back to take Street View images, allowing pictures to be taken in pedestrian paths, narrow roads, and all angles of archaeological sites that the photography team tours.

Street View is one of the advanced features of Google Maps, as it allows users to explore many important sites and places such as tourist attractions, natural wonders, and the most prominent archaeological and heritage sites in the world.

"The Google Street View team goes to different locations around the world, and of course Egypt is included in the list of those wonderful countries," said Tariq Abdullah, Head of Marketing at Google for the Middle East and North Africa.

It is noteworthy that this virtual tour experience is the third of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa region, after filming the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. Meanwhile, Google filmed various shots of the National Museum in Iraq and the Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar, until Users can make a virtual visit to these sites.

Google Maps Street View service started in 2007, and now it covers thousands of archaeological and natural sites in 57 countries in the world. This project includes taking 360-degree panoramic photos of the sites.
