ArabiaWeather - An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale struck this morning in Maluku Province, eastern Indonesia, after a strong earthquake struck parts of Japan.
A statement by the Indonesia Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said that the epicenter of the earthquake occurred 99 kilometers from the province's Baratdaya Pursilatan Islands, at a depth of 10 kilometers. The statement warned of the possibility of aftershocks.
So far, there have been no reports of material or human losses as a result of the earthquake
Earthquakes regularly strike different parts of Indonesia, as it is located on the Pacific belt known as the "Ring of Fire", where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
