An important reason you will not expect is that there is a hole in the ballpoint pen cap

Weather of Arabia - A video clip recently circulated explaining the reason for the presence of a small hole at the top of the cap of some ballpoint pens drew the attention of thousands on social media, for discovering the unexpected reason for the hole.

Most people think the hole in the cap has something to do with the ink, but the real reason is much more important, and it might save someone's life!

The video shows an X-ray of the airway and how the perforated cap can allow air to pass through the throat if it is accidentally swallowed.

Fountain pen manufacturers are required under international safety standards to add an opening at the top of the cap to prevent the cap from blocking the airway if the cap is accidentally swallowed. So that it cannot enter the respiratory tract.
