Arab Weather - American astronaut Butch Wilmore, 61, who was stuck with astronaut Suni Williams in the malfunctioning Boeing Starliner capsule attached to the International Space Station, reported hearing a "strange noise" coming from inside the capsule.

Mystery surrounds this sound, and baffles astronauts

During a call Wilmore made last Saturday to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, he expressed his lack of knowledge about the source of this mysterious sound, and officials at the center asked him to activate the microphone on the speaker, so they could hear the repeated pulsating sound, which caused concern.

Wilmore and Williams, 58, were scheduled to stay at the space station for just nine days after launching from Earth in June. But due to a propulsion problem and a helium leak in the Starliner capsule, NASA decided to keep the astronauts at the station for an additional six months. Instead of returning them in Boeing’s Starliner capsule, they will be returned in SpaceX’s competing Dragon capsule in February, after Boeing’s Starliner returns to Earth without a crew.

NASA also announced that the empty Starliner capsule will begin its journey on September 6, landing at White Sands Spaceport in New Mexico after midnight on September 7, "pending weather conditions and operational readiness."

Some experts have expressed concern that the noise could be harmful. Among them is former Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, who expressed his concern via the X communication platform, saying:

“There are many noises I would rather not hear inside my spacecraft, including this alarming noise.”
