ArabiaWeather - In an amazing story that raises terror, a New Zealand fisherman was rescued after spending nearly 24 hours in the ocean.
The man was on a solo fishing trip when he fell into the sea after he succeeded in catching a marlin off the coast of the Coromandel Peninsula on the eastern side of the North Island in New Zealand on Tuesday. The lucky fisherman was able to survive and remain cool, as he used reflection rays. The sun is on his watch to attract attention and escape his ordeal in the middle of the sea.
Police Sergeant Will Hamilton said on Thursday that during one of his ordeals, a shark unexpectedly appeared near the fisherman as if it was smelling him. He noted that the fisherman was swept away by sea currents, as he lost the ability to return to his boat. Hamilton added:
“He was experiencing a harsh night in the ocean, and he was so exhausted that he was unable to continue swimming, and in these difficult moments, a shark approached him as if it was smelling his scent before moving away.”
On Wednesday afternoon, three men noticed unusual activity while fishing in the area, as they spotted an unusual reflection in the water. In this context, Hamilton stated:
“They decided to check out the situation, and discovered a fellow fisherman desperately trying to get their attention using the sun’s reflection on his watch.”
Hamilton stressed that "the fisherman's survival after this horrific experience is a true miracle," considering that "had it not been for the immediate intervention of the three men who saved him, the end could have been more tragic."
