Arabia Weather - According to the statement issued by the Japanese Meteorological Agency , the warning came after an earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 6.6 on the Richter scale occurred, and this earthquake occurred at 11 am local time near Torishima Island.
According to available information, the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Pacific Ocean, about 550 kilometers south of Tokyo, and a warning was issued about the possibility of tsunami waves, known as tsunami, with a height of approximately one meter on the islands located off the coast of the eastern Izu Peninsula of Japan.
The earthquake was not felt by residents of the islands or the Tokyo area of Japan, however, the meteorological agency issued a warning of the possibility of tsunami waves reaching the coastal areas of the islands, which could reach a height of one meter, or approximately 3.2 feet. The agency reported that it had detected a small tsunami with a height of about 30 cm in the Yaini area on Hachijo Island.
It should be noted that Japan is considered one of the most earthquake-prone regions in the world. In 2011, Japan witnessed a massive earthquake that resulted in a tsunami that destroyed vast areas of the north of the country, and also resulted in the Fukushima nuclear plant collapse.
