ArabiaWeather - Vietnamese Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long said today, Saturday (May 29) that the country has discovered a new type of Corona virus, which is a mixture of Indian and British Covid-19 variants that are spreading rapidly through the air, according to the VnExpress electronic newspaper.
According to Mr. Nguyen, the hybrid strain can spread very quickly in the air, and the Vietnamese Ministry of Health will announce this new strain on the global gene map.
The two mutated strains, first identified in Britain and India, are currently the most common variants of novel coronavirus cases in Vietnam in the ongoing wave of infections.
After successfully containing the Corona virus in most of the country last year, Vietnam is now struggling with an outbreak of the disease that is spreading more quickly, with nearly 3,600 people infected with the infection in 31 of 63 cities and provinces since late April, which represents more than half of the total infections in the country.
Nguyen Than Long was quoted as saying, "After the gene sequencing was performed on newly infected patients, we discovered a new variant which is a mixture of India and Britain variant ... More specifically, it is of the India variant and possesses mutations that belong originally to the British variant." He added: that Vietnam will soon announce to the world the newly discovered variable.
Vietnam previously reported seven variants of the coronavirus, namely: B.1.222, B.1.619, D614G, B.1.1.7 (British variant), B.1.351, A.23.1, and B.1.617.2 (Indian variant).
Long was quoted as saying that the laboratory cultures of the new variant, which is more transmissible than the previously known species, revealed that the virus multiplied itself very quickly, explaining the reason for the emergence of many new cases in different sites in a short period.
The Southeast Asian country has recorded 6,396 cases of coronavirus so far, with 47 deaths.
