Arab weather - during the winter period, the temperatures drop a lot and may reach zero or more in some areas, the lower temperatures negatively affect the plants as the water freezes inside the plant tissues and with this freezing, the volume of water increases, which leads to suffocation and damage to plants The frost will not only damage the leaves of plants, but it may also damage the roots of these plants because the soil will expand and shrink during the winter period, which will negatively affect these roots.
1- Protecting and strengthening the soil against frost :
We must know that the soil in which the plant roots are the most important part in this matter, and it must be ensured that they are protected first and to take all appropriate precautions against frost by placing a layer of sawdust around the base of the plantings with a thickness of about 10 cm, and you must at this stage to move away Mulch layer on the coronary region between the stem of the column and the base in order to prevent decay.
2- The farmer must comb the soil and make sure that there are no low spots so that water does not collect inside it and it is one of the areas most exposed to frost.
3- Cover plants :
The crops with high frost sensitivity are covered by glass or plastic covers, and this is what is applied recently in most agricultural lands, but in the past, straw was used, and the plantings are covered with these things directly, whether it is plastic or cloth curtains and raised from the plantings during their growth and thus will protect Plantings from frost and insects, too.
4- Warm the plants :
In this method, the air surrounding the plantings is heated by many different methods, such as burning a quantity of wood, which leads to an increase in the temperature around the plants, or the use of oil or coal, but you must first make sure that the winds are calm so that the temperature is preserved.
5- Irrigation of crops with spray and surface irrigation system:
This method was considered one of the best means of preserving plants from frost. After conducting scientific tests, the importance of this method was confirmed. It was found that to combat frost, one hectare needs about 8 tons of water when the water temperature is 10 degrees Celsius.
6- Building isolated and greenhouses around plantations:
It may be resorted to creating greenhouses or isolated greenhouses, which are large structures that are covered with certain materials that allow the passage of the sun, moisture and air to the plants in order to provide a specific ecosystem for these plants or protect them from harsh weather conditions, which helps to preserve the temperature surrounding the plants. And installing these greenhouses, therefore, they are a unique solution to protect crops from frost.
