Weather of Arabia - What are the " Channel Islands " and where are they located? This is an introduction to the " Island Channel " or the five Channel Islands, which are Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm. Let's find out what makes these wonderful islands the perfect place for a holiday in the UK but beyond.
The Channel Islands are not part of the United Kingdom, nor the European Union, but are extensions of the British Crown, meaning that its citizens are British but have self-government and independent administration, residents do not vote in UK elections (unless they are resident in the United Kingdom at the time).
The Channel Islands are located in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy in France, and are actually closer to France than they are to England. There are planes from many UK airports to Jersey and Guernsey and by boat to other islands
The islands are divided into both the Dependency of Jersey (Baileywick of Jersey) and the Dependency of Guernsey which includes the islands of Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herme. It features a number of attractions such as the Jersey War Tunnels and Cornet Castle, not to mention sandy and rocky beaches and sheltered coves.
June and July are the best months to travel to the Channel Islands, when the weather is warm, with the average temperature in Jersey averaging 17°C in July, and fewer tourists than during the school holidays in August.
Another interesting time to visit is when the Channel Islands celebrate their annual liberation day celebrations from German occupation during World War II, and there are usually live concerts and military processions to mark the occasion.
