Arab Weather - The period of the appearance of the star Suhail is considered a period that is widely awaited in Arab circles, as the Arabs say about the appearance of Suhail: "If Suhail rises, the night is pleasant, and the nap is stopped, and the young camel blames woe and the measure is lifted," while the common people express it by saying: "If Suhail rises, you feel the dates at night."

Terms related to the star Suhail

The beginning of the star Suhail is known as Al-Tarfa or “Suhail Al-Safri”, and lasts for 13 days. Suhail is the seventh star of the summer and the first of the stars of Al-Safri, and is considered the beginning of the star Suhail that can be seen with the naked eye, and lasts for 53 days.

The Arabs describe the atmosphere that accompanies the appearance of Suhail by saying:

• If Suhail rises, the night will be cold, the flood will be feared, and woe will befall Umm al-Hwar.
• The desert says: "Suhail appears in the sky and agitates the camels in the valley."
• While in the city, it is said: “Pay attention to Suhail, O intelligent one, if the water in the heart increases.”
• As the common people say: "Suhail belies the counter", and "Summer begins with the rising of the Pleiades and ends with the rising of Suhail."

Famous examples of the star Suhail

A common proverb is: "Do not be afraid of the flood, Suhail."

When the wind is southerly, clouds begin to appear and there is hope for rain. However, if the wind is northerly, the chances of rain are slim and the weather begins to cool early, leading to a cold night after sunset.

What is associated with the appearance of the star Suhail?

With the onset of Suhail, strong winds known as “Habaib Suhail” begin to blow, which moderates the weather. High humidity continues until mid-September, a period called “Akkat Suhail”, during which the nights lengthen and the days shorten.

During the Tarfa period, the shade begins to extend, lemons ripen and fruits in general are available, including dates that reach the markets. Palm seedlings and vegetables are also planted. During Tarfa, pomegranates ripen and vegetables such as watermelons, cantaloupes, autumn clover, eggplant, yellow corn, squash, cucumbers, cabbage, squash, zucchini, okra, beans, cowpeas, onions, peppers, cauliflower, sesame, turnips, chard, spinach and tomatoes are planted.

Also, woolen fabrics are spread out to protect them from mites, and the migration of small birds such as warblers and thrushes begins, in addition to the beginning of the migration of the dove and the presence of some migratory birds.
