The International Astronomy Center shows the date of Eid al-Fitr in countries that depend on sighting the crescent

Weather of Arabia - A statement by the International Astronomy Center in Abu Dhabi set the date of Eid al-Fitr in most Islamic countries, based on astronomical calculations.

In its statement, the center confirmed the impossibility of seeing the crescent on Saturday, Ramadan 29 (April 30), which coincides with the day the crescent was investigated in Saudi Arabia and most Arab countries. Because pairing occurs after sunset.

And the center’s statement said: “For the countries that will investigate the crescent on Saturday (April 30), seeing the crescent on that day is impossible because the moon sets before the sun and for the pairing to occur after sunset.”

And the statement continued: “Therefore, these countries will complete the period of Ramadan thirty days, so that Eid al-Fitr will be on Monday (May 2).”

“As for the countries that will investigate the crescent on Sunday (1 May), such as Jordan, seeing the crescent on that day is possible with a telescope only from central and western Asia, most of Europe and southern Africa.”

The Shawwal crescent can be seen on the same day with the naked eye, but with difficulty, from the African continent except for its south, from western Europe, from northern America and central South America, the center adds.

On the other hand, “the sighting of the crescent on that day will be possible with the naked eye, and relatively easily, from the United States and Central America.”

The statement of the International Astronomy Center concluded that “it is expected that the majority of countries that will investigate the crescent on Sunday will announce that the number of Ramadan is 29 days.” And that Monday, May 2, is the happy Eid al-Fitr.

The Center also predicted that the Eid will be on Tuesday, May 3 in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
