ArabiaWeather.com - Omar Dajani - Snowfall in the Arabian Peninsula is very rare, as the opportunity for it to fall is usually limited during a limited period of the winter season and to narrow areas in northern Saudi Arabia, such as the high mountains of the Tabuk region and some regions of Al-Jawf.
But in a few years, the Arabian Peninsula was exposed to exceptional weather conditions, which led to snowfall in areas that are not used to it. For example, snow fell on the capital, Riyadh, on 1-3-1973, corresponding to 11-29-1392 AH, when the residents of Riyadh that day saw a scene that they had not seen before, represented by the accumulation of a light layer of white snow on the houses and everything surrounding them, after it rained for 3 continuous days, sometimes coinciding with thick fog that limits horizontal vision and obscures the light.
Not only that, the Dawadmi region, west of Riyadh, witnessed historical and rare snowfall with the beginning of February 1993, or corresponding to the middle of Sha'ban for the year 1413 AH.
Although many could not document the snows of Riyadh in 1392 AH, the snows of Dawadmi in 1413 AH are documented with a number of video clips, as the clips show soft cottony snow falling next to the tamarisk in Shuaib Al-Dawadmi.

In order not to confuse the matter with some, snowfall is different from hail in general and in detail, as the central regions of Saudi Arabia witnessed hail often, which is normal even in hot weather. This does not happen in most years.

The month of February 1993 was extreme in terms of the polar air masses rushing unusually to the south, which led to a significant decrease in temperatures and rainfall in several parts of the country, which was in the form of snow over some mountainous heights in the center and west of the Kingdom, as it appears Some historical archival photos show that snow fell on some of the mountains of Medina and Hail.
