It was described as a historical miracle, with a length of 170 km, extending between the Syrian and Jordanian lands, and this distance is nine times the length of the second longest underground aqueduct in Italy.

The Romans began constructing the tunnel in the second century AD when the Roman Emperor Hadrian ordered its construction in the year 130 AD, and work on it continued for more than eighty non-continuous years.

The tunnel starts inside the Syrian lands from the city of Dion (Tal Al-Ashari) in the Syrian Hauran and ends in Jadara - Umm Qais. And to transfer water between the cities of the Decapolis, to collect rain water and to increase human settlement in that area, noting that 80% of the tunnel parts were destroyed due to the lapse of time and earthquakes.
