Arab Weather - Weather experts at the Arab Weather Regional Center said that the latest outputs from the so-called computer simulation indicate the formation of two areas of low atmospheric pressure this week over the Mediterranean Sea, with the impact of both being concentrated on the south and east of the European continent, but the effects extend with less intensity towards parts of North Africa, specifically Libya and Tunisia, and some areas of the Levant, especially the coastal ones.
Satellite images from the Arab Weather Regional Center indicate that a cold air mass is rushing towards southern Europe and the central Mediterranean region, where a low pressure system is forming south of Greece, surrounded by rain clouds. Cold winter weather prevails with snow falling over high mountain heights and heavy rain falling on lower elevations. The same weather system is accompanied by great activity in wind speed, which causes great disturbance in the waves.
As the low pressure system moves towards the southeast starting from Saturday/Sunday night and during the coming days, its effects will extend to include the northeastern regions of Libya and will reach northern Egypt and the coasts of the Levant by the middle of the week, where the opportunity for showers of rain is available, and it is not unlikely that it will include the sector in Palestine.
At the same time, weather maps at the Arab Weather Center indicate the continued presence of a strong high pressure system in southwestern Europe, which leads to the flow of a new cold air mass towards southern Europe and the central Mediterranean Sea. This results in the formation of a new low pressure system that may be more effective and is accompanied by strong winds on the sea and significant wave disturbances with heavy rains in southern Europe, specifically Greece.
The effects of the low pressure system are expected to extend to include several parts of northern Libya and perhaps northern Tunisia, where showers of rain will fall, which may sometimes be heavy and cause valleys and ravines to flow and form floods in low-lying areas. As for the Levant, it will be far from any effects of this weather system due to the distance of the center of the low pressure system.
The main reason why low pressure systems do not reach the eastern Mediterranean in the same way as they do other regions is due to the shape and movement of the weather systems. Low pressure systems usually form in certain regions such as the western or central Mediterranean, where they arise as a result of temperature differences between land and sea.
Experts at Arab Weather said that this process forces high air pressure to be concentrated near the region repeatedly due to the continued advance of the high pressure towards the region.
And God knows best.
