A severe polar wave affects Iraq, causing temperatures to drop several degrees below zero Celsius and accompanied by snow in several areas.

Issued by the Arab Weather Regional Center, weather experts at the Arab Weather Regional Center said that Iraq will be affected, God willing, by a very cold polar air mass starting from Saturday, and will deepen, God willing, at the beginning and middle of next week, leading to a sharp drop in temperatures reaching below zero degrees Celsius in the north and west of the country.

Saturday: Gradual infiltration of polar winds of extreme cold towards Iraq

Iraq begins to be affected by a very cold air mass, so temperatures drop noticeably, becoming colder than their usual rates for this time of year by about 6-8 degrees Celsius. The weather is remarkably cold in most areas except for the far south of the country. Clouds appear with a chance of rain showers in some areas, which will be in the form of snow over the high mountainous elevations.

During the night hours of Saturday/Sunday, the weather will turn very cold in all regions, while it will be very cold in the northern regions and high mountainous areas with freezing. The minimum temperatures in the capital, Baghdad, will be around 7 degrees Celsius, and the winds will be northwesterly, light to moderate in speed. Clouds will appear with snow falling on the mountainous areas, while there will be a chance for snow showers to fall on some western regions.

Sunday: Iraq increasingly affected by a cold polar air mass and another drop in temperatures

Temperatures drop further and are about 8 degrees Celsius colder than their usual rates for this time of year. The weather is remarkably cold in most areas and very cold over the mountains. Clouds appear in northern Iraq with snow falling over the high mountain heights. The winds are northwesterly, moderate in speed, and sometimes active.

During the hours of Sunday/Monday night and Monday dawn, the cold polar winds will deepen into Iraq, and temperatures will drop significantly to below zero degrees Celsius in large areas of northern and western Iraq, while reaching 3-4 degrees Celsius in the capital, Baghdad. A severe state of freezing and ice will occur in large areas of Iraq, especially those that have witnessed snowfall.

Monday: A very cold, polar air mass is placed over Iraq.

The polar air mass is located over Iraq, so temperatures drop and become colder than their usual rates for this time of year by about 12-10 degrees Celsius. The weather is generally very cold and very cold over the mountains, and the winds are northwesterly, moderate in speed, and sometimes active.

Monday night, dawn and Tuesday morning, the peak of the bitter cold and the minimum temperature drops to zero degrees Celsius in Baghdad

During the hours of Monday/Tuesday night until Tuesday morning, temperatures will collapse to fall below zero degrees Celsius from 2 to 4 degrees in most parts of the northern and western parts of the country, while they will drop to less than 17 degrees below zero above the northern mountain peaks. A vast state of ice and freezing will occur, including the capital, Baghdad, due to the temperature dropping to around zero degrees Celsius.
