Arabiaweather.com - Ismail Ghasemi - The word Namib means "wide place" and it is the only desert in the world that lies on the coast, and it is also the oldest desert found on the planet as well.
The massive Namib Desert covers an area of 81,000 square kilometres, and it stretches for more than 2,000 kilometers along the Atlantic coasts of Angola, Namibia and South Africa.
In 2013, UNESCO declared the Namib Desert, with its sands overlooking the sea, to be the only coastal desert in the world and the only one with fog over large sand dunes. It is also home to many rare species of flora and fauna that depend on the mist as their only source of water.
Visiting times to be avoided
You can visit the desert of Namibia and its natural park at any time of the year, but avoid the period between the months of December and February, when the temperature rises to more than 50 degrees Celsius. As for the period between February and April, you will see some greenery and wild flowers, and the rest of the year you will see the beautiful desert in all its colors.
