Arab Weather - Three people died and 40 others were injured as a result of Typhoon Shanshan, which hit land on the main island of Kyushu in southwestern Japan. The typhoon disrupted air and train traffic, in addition to power outages in large areas.

Typhoon Shanshan made landfall near the city of Satsumasendai on Thursday morning, packing winds of up to 198 kilometers per hour, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, citing Kyodo News. The agency urged residents in the affected areas to remain on high alert for possible natural disasters.

Flights suspended and power outages

Heavy rains also caused partial suspension of train and flight services. Kyushu Electric Power Company said more than 250,000 homes in seven different areas were without power.

Typhoon Shanshan comes on the heels of Typhoon Ampil, which disrupted hundreds of flights and trains earlier in the month, and Tropical Storm Maria. A study published last month suggests that cyclones in the region are intensifying faster and lasting longer over land as a result of climate change.
