This record coincides with the Memorial Day weekend, which is considered the beginning of the summer travel season in the United States. The “Airlines for America” group of major American airlines expects the number of passengers during the summer to reach 271 million passengers, an increase of 6.3% over last year. .

The administration explained that the number of passengers on Friday broke the previous record recorded in November, which witnessed about 2.91 million passengers.

The group also indicated that American airlines plan to operate more than 26,000 flights daily this summer, an increase of nearly 1,400 flights compared to 2023, an increase of 5.6%, as they transported 255 million passengers in that year.

The summer travel season forecast covers the period from June 1 to August 31.
