Arab Weather - Floods have submerged more than 200 villages in Bangladesh so far, killing seven people and leaving more than 150,000 people stranded without assistance.

Rising water levels and expanding damage

As water levels in rivers rise, new areas are being flooded, a local newspaper reported today.

Bangladeshi authorities are concerned about the extensive damage to agriculture and crops, and are continuing to work with volunteer organizations and border guards to rescue those affected in the Sherpur area.

Rescue efforts are joined by military forces.

Since yesterday morning, Bangladesh Army troops have joined the rescue efforts, stepping up rescue efforts for trapped residents and providing assistance in the affected areas. Last August, floods knocked out about 2,025 mobile phone towers in 12 of the 15 districts of northeastern Bangladesh, causing major disruptions to mobile network services operated by five companies.
