Arab Weather - We usually feel the beginning of autumn when the nights start to get longer, temperatures drop, and the colors of the leaves change. But is there a specific date that can be considered the official start of this season?
In fact, there are two dates that can be considered the beginning of autumn, each based on different criteria: one based on astronomy and the other on meteorology.

The astronomical beginning of fall is the official start. This beginning is determined by the tilt of the Earth's axis as it orbits the sun, which causes the two hemispheres to receive different amounts of solar radiation. In fall, what is known as the autumnal equinox occurs, when the length of day and night are equal. In the Northern Hemisphere, this equinox occurs in September, while in the Southern Hemisphere it occurs in March. Autumn continues until the winter solstice.
On the other hand, meteorology relies on dividing the year into four seasons, each of which lasts three months. This division facilitates the process of meteorological observation, forecasting, and determining seasonal statistics. According to the meteorological calendar, autumn always begins on September 1 and ends on November 30 , which means that this season extends over the months of September, October, and November.
