A frost wave hits northern Europe... and 30 below zero for the first time in Oslo

Arab Weather - The temperature dropped for the first time to more than 30 degrees Celsius below zero in Oslo on Saturday, as a temperature of 31.1 degrees below zero was recorded in Bjornholt, north of the Norwegian capital, according to local meteorological service data.

This temperature was recorded during the night from Friday to Saturday between three and four o'clock local time, at a forest station in the area. In the twenty-four hours preceding the reading, the highest temperature was recorded at 21.9 degrees below zero.

Just before 8am GMT on Saturday, the temperature reached minus 29 degrees Celsius according to the Yer-No website.

"Last night was probably the coldest," Martin Granerud, a meteorologist at Norway's meteorological service, told state television NRK. Extreme temperatures were recorded in Oslo, with temperatures dipping to -21.5 degrees Celsius in the city centre.

Northern Europe is currently experiencing the effects of a cold wave, as record sub-zero temperatures were recorded in northern Sweden, reaching minus 43.6 degrees Celsius, the lowest temperature recorded in this region in 25 years in January.
