A low pressure system and a polar air mass bring stormy and rainy weather to Iraq, with snowfall in these areas.

Arab Weather - Meteorologists at the Arab Weather Regional Center said that the latest readings from the so-called computer simulation indicate that Iraq will be affected, God willing, on Thursday by a low-pressure system accompanied by a polar air mass of very cold origin, bringing with it cold, stormy and rainy winter weather with snowfall over many of the high northern mountain ranges.

Wednesday: At the forefront of the depression, warm and dusty weather with some unstable weather conditions

God willing, Iraq will be affected on Wednesday 5/2/2025 by the front of the low pressure system in the form of a warm and dusty air mass. Therefore, temperatures will rise significantly to become about 3 degrees Celsius higher than their average for this time of year. The weather will be very warm but dusty to varying degrees. The winds will be active southeasterly, causing dust waves in the center, east and south of the country, while they will be westerly in the western regions, carrying the transported dust.

Clouds will gradually increase over the northern and western regions, with the possibility of rain showers in limited parts of those regions due to a state of atmospheric instability, the impact of which will increase during the night hours.

Wednesday/Thursday night: A noticeable drop in temperatures and an increase in atmospheric instability at the front of the depression

During the hours of Wednesday/Thursday night, the low pressure system approaches Iraq, so temperatures drop significantly and the weather turns cold in general, and the country is increasingly affected by a state of atmospheric instability, so the amount of clouds increases and showers of rain fall on the northern regions, especially the eastern ones, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms, and snow begins to fall over the high mountainous heights.

Thursday: The low pressure system crosses Iraq's skies, and the weather turns into a cold, stormy, and rainy winter.

Starting from Thursday morning, the low pressure system will move towards the northwestern regions and a cold air front will cross the country, God willing. Therefore, temperatures will drop significantly, becoming 3-4 degrees Celsius below their average for this time of year. The weather will turn into a cold, rainy and stormy winter in various northern and western regions, reaching the central regions, including the capital, Baghdad. Rain will sometimes be heavy and accompanied by hail showers, especially in the northern regions.

Snow also falls and accumulates on the high northern mountainous heights, especially those that are more than 1300 meters above sea level, including the heights of Nineveh, Dohuk and Sulaymaniyah, God willing. The thickness of the snow increases with the increase in height above sea level, God willing.

As for the southern regions, they are still far from the effects of the cold air mass, and the weather will be moderate in terms of temperatures, which will be in the twenties, but the atmosphere will be noticeably dusty, God willing.

During the hours of Thursday/Friday night, Iraq will continue to be affected by the low pressure system, so temperatures will drop and the weather will be cold and changeable between partly cloudy and cloudy, and rain will fall on the northern regions and parts of the western regions. The early night hours will extend to some central regions, including Baghdad, and snow will continue to fall on the northern mountainous heights, God willing.
