A strong state of air instability awaits many governorates in the Sultanate, starting today, Friday, and gradually intensifying on Saturday and Sunday

Weather of Arabia website - Rami Obaid - It is expected during the coming hours that cumulus thunderstorm clouds, accompanied by showers of rain of varying intensity, will condense in parts of the South and North Al Batinah Governorate, including the Hajar Mountains, in addition to parts of the eastern region, the districts of Tire and its environs, and parts of the Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates.

These clouds are accompanied by the activity of surface winds, which raise dust and dirt in desert areas.

With the hours of the afternoon and evening of tomorrow, Saturday, it is expected that different parts will be affected by a state of atmospheric instability, so it is expected that cumulus clouds will condense in different parts of the Sultanate, including parts of the Governorate of North and South Al Batinah, parts of the Eastern Province, and the Governorates of Al Wusta and Dhofar. Showers of rain are heavy at intervals and are accompanied by showers of hail, especially in parts of the eastern region.

On Sunday, air instability is expected to intensify in the governorates of North and South Al Batinah and the Eastern region, as well as Al Dhahirah and Al Buraimi governorates, and an opportunity for heavy thunderstorms in many parts of these governorates.

The reason for this strong state of atmospheric instability is that the Sultanate is affected by a thermal depression that pushes moist and warm southerly winds coming from the Arabian Sea. This coincides with the presence of a cold air mass in the middle and upper layers of the atmosphere. This leads to the rise of moist air to the top, and then condensation occurs and the formation of thunderstorm clouds.
