Arab Weather - Dr. Abdullah Al-Misnad, former professor of climate at Qassim University and vice president of the Saudi Weather and Climate Society, stated that the Makkah Clock Tower is a favorite destination for lightning strikes thanks to its height of 601 meters. He added that this tower ranks first in the Arab world in terms of the number of times it is struck by lightning, as it is exposed to lightning at a rate that exceeds the Burj Khalifa in Dubai by about 20 times.
Dr. Al-Masnad pointed out that the reason behind the recurrence of these lightning strikes is due to the tower’s high height, its location in the middle of rugged mountainous terrain, in addition to the violent weather patterns that affect the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region.
He confirmed via his account on the "X" platform that 20 lightning rods provide protection for the tower and the clock from lightning strikes, God willing, concluding by saying, "And God knows best."
