Al-Musnad: Suhail's ailments exhaust people (details)

Arab Weather - Dr. Abdullah Al-Misnad, former professor of climate at Qassim University and vice president of the Saudi Weather and Climate Society, stated that according to the Saudi horizon, the day remains longer than the night during the first two-thirds of the Suhail season. On the first day of Suhail, corresponding to August 24, the day in the far north of the Kingdom is 13 hours and 5 minutes long, which is the longest in that region, while in the center of the Kingdom the day lasts for 12 hours and 49 minutes, and in the south of the Kingdom 12 hours and 35 minutes, which is the shortest there.

Al-Masnad explained that the Suhail season brings heat waves that affect people, and with the increase in night hours and the decrease in daylight hours, the abundance of dates increases, citing the popular saying: “If Suhail rises, you can feel the dates at night.”

Al-Misnad added that the night continues to increase in length at the expense of the day almost daily, as it increases in the north by an average of 1 minute and 39 seconds, in the center by an average of 1 minute and 13 seconds, and in the south by an average of 48 seconds. This pattern continues until the length of the night and day are equal on September 27 and 28, when each is 12 hours long, and then the night begins to take on more daylight hours and becomes longer.

Al-Musnad concluded that on the last day of the Suhail season, corresponding to October 15, the day in the far north of the Kingdom will be 11 hours and 26 minutes long, which is the shortest during that period, while in the center of the Kingdom the day will last for 11 hours and 36 minutes, and in the south of the Kingdom 11 hours and 47 minutes, which is the longest.

He pointed to a strange phenomenon, where the length of the day is reversed between the north and south of the Kingdom during the Suhail season; at the beginning of the season the day is longest in the north, while at the end it is longest in the south, citing the Quranic verse: {That is because Allah merges the night into the day and merges the day into the night}.
