Arab Weather - Dr. Abdullah Al-Musnad, former professor of climate at Qassim University and vice president of the Saudi Weather and Climate Society, said that the last day of the Suhail season is October 15, followed immediately by the start of the Wasm season on October 16.
Al-Masnad explained via his account on the “X” platform that the start of the Wasm season coincides with the start of the “Sarfa” star, which is the last of the four Suhail stars. He added that the name “Sarfa” came from the departure of the heat when it rises at dawn from the east in early October, as well as the departure of the cold when it sets at dawn in the west around mid-March.
Al-Misnad added that Wasm is not a star or a position in the sky, but rather a description of a time of year. Wasm is characterized by four lunar mansions: the first is “Al-Awa’a” which begins on October 16, then “Al-Sammak” which begins on October 29, followed by “Al-Ghafr” which begins on November 11, and finally “Al-Zabana” which begins on November 24.
