Arab Weather - An earthquake measuring 7.8 on Wednesday struck about 800 km southwest of Anchorage, Alaska, causing a tsunami warning, according to the American Seismological Institute .

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said, "Based on preliminary earthquake standards, serious tsunamis can strike the coasts within 300 km of the earthquake epicenter." Therefore, a tsunami warning was issued in the Alaska Peninsula and southern Alaska, according to ArabiaNet.

Alaska experienced a 9.2 magnitude earthquake in March 1964, the strongest earthquake ever recorded in North America. It caused great damage to Anchorage and caused a tsunami that wreaked havoc on the Gulf of Alaska on the western coast of the United States, Hawaii. More than 250 people were killed in that earthquake and tsunami.
