According to the astronomical calculations of the Moroccan Initiative for Science and Thought, on Thursday, May 17th, the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan for the year 1439 AH will be astronomically unanimously agreed upon by the Arab and Islamic countries.

In order to see the crescent of the new month in the sky, we investigate the crescent on the twenty-ninth day, and two basic conditions must be met, in which it is impossible to see the crescent in the absence of one of them:

First: that the moon has reached the stage of approximation (conjugation) before sunset, second: that the moon sets after sunset; Because the sighting of the crescent begins immediately after the beginning of the new Hijri day at sunset, so if the moon was going to set before or with sunset; This means that there is no crescent in the sky that we are looking for after sunset, as if one of the two previous conditions is not met; The possibility of seeing the crescent is called "impossible".

The central conjunction (central conjunction) of the New moon will occur for the “Ramadan Moon” at 11:49 GMT on Tuesday, May 15.

As for the countries that will investigate the crescent on Tuesday, May 15, seeing it will be impossible, and one of the recommendations of the second Emirates Astronomical Conference, which was attended by jurists and decision-makers from many Islamic countries, was the text: “If astronomy decides that the conjunction does not occur before sunset or that the moon sets before the sun on the twenty-ninth day of the month, so he is not called upon to investigate the crescent.” Accordingly, these countries will complete the month of Sha’ban with 30 days.

As for the countries that will investigate the crescent on the evening of Wednesday, May 16th, the vision will be possible and clear, and accordingly, these countries will complete the month of Sha`ban with only 29 days.

Based on all of the above, the first day of Ramadan for the year 1439 AH will be, God Almighty willing, on Thursday, May 17, 2018 in all Arab and Islamic countries .

The Association of the Moroccan Initiative for Science and Thought confirms that it does not announce the start of the month of fasting, but only presents what it discovers scientifically, while the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs is responsible for announcing this.
