The sky of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Arab region will witness the first lunar eclipse in the year 2019, at dawn on Monday, mid-Jumada al-Akhirah 1440 AH, corresponding to January 21, 2019. You can easily see all its phases with the naked eye.

The Earth's shadow will cover approximately 120 % of the Moon's surface, and can be seen in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, the Americas, most of East Asia, and the Pacific Ocean.

According to the scientific calculations of the Association of the Moroccan Initiative for Science and Thought, the semi-shadow eclipse will begin in Morocco at 03:36, and at 04:33 the total eclipse phase begins, meaning that the moon begins to enter the earth’s shadow area and the color of the moon becomes red, but the maximum eclipse will be at 06:06. :12 While the phenomenon ends completely at 08:48 with sunrise.

The eclipse in all its stages, from its beginning to its end, takes 5 hours and 12 minutes, and the total eclipse from its beginning to its end takes an hour and 3 minutes.

The phenomenon of lunar eclipses occurs at a rate of about twice a year, when the moon enters the earth's shadow ( umbra ). So the sun’s light is blocked from a part of the moon’s disk, so a partial eclipse occurs, or from all of the moon’s disk, so a total eclipse occurs. Before the moon enters the earth's shadow, it enters the penumbra , so the moon's light begins to fade, and what is known as a penumbra eclipse occurs.

In contrast to the solar eclipse phenomenon, the eclipse can be observed with the naked eye, hand-held binoculars, and telescopes.
