Arab Weather - Some people are surprised at this time of year by the automatic change of time on some smartphones, as the phones adjust their time to winter time, although the Jordanian government decided to install summer time throughout the year. This defect raises questions about the reason and how to solve it, especially since more than seven million citizens in Jordan use smartphones.

What if winter time is re-implemented in Jordan?
This problem is caused by the programming of smartphones supervised by international companies that use two time systems: summer and winter. Although Jordan has established summer time throughout the year (GMT +3), some phones may automatically adjust their time to winter time, due to their old programming that depends on changing the time twice a year.
Interestingly, some phones, even of the same make and model, are affected by this issue, while others continue to display the correct time. This is due to how the devices are updated and the time is read by the system of each device.
The Jordanian government has decided to implement summer time throughout the year based on an extensive study that showed that this timing allows for the longest possible period of daylight hours. This decision aims to reduce work in the evening and at night, which is particularly beneficial for students and employees who work until late hours.
Although the problem of automatically adjusting the time on smartphones may annoy many citizens, there are simple solutions available, such as restarting the device or updating the system. If the problem persists, the time can be adjusted manually to ensure that it is consistent with the fixed summer time in Jordan.
