Bait Al-Zubair.. Learn about the ancient Omani life

Arabiaweather.com - Ismail Qasimi - The Sultanate of Oman includes a number of public museums such as the Omani Museum, the National Museum, the Museum of Natural History and others, and Bait Al Zubair is the only private museum among them.

The museum is located near the Al Alam Palace, in a family building dating back to 1914 in the old city of Muscat. It was turned into a museum in 1998, to host a collection of holdings and events interested in the history of ancient Oman.

The house was built by Al-Zubayr bin Ali, one of the notables in ancient Oman, and today there are old belongings and legacies of the Al-Zubayr family, in addition to two cannons that Sultan Qaboos donated to the museum when it opened.

Starting from its carved wooden doors to handicrafts, old furniture, postage stamps and old coins, you can catch a glimpse of some of the finest Omani heritage items, and you can also buy some souvenirs from the shop in the museum.

The museum is divided into three buildings: Bait Al-Bag, Bait Al-Oud, Bait Al-Dalayel, and an outdoor garden. In Beit Al-Bag, you will find a number of departments that include the Omani traditional daggers and weapons department, the women's clothing and jewelry department, and the men's clothing department. In Bait Al Oud, you will find furniture, old maps, photographs, and books, in addition to coins, seals, and a number of musical instruments.

As for the House of Evidence, it has a deep well in the middle and is covered with a glass panel. It embodies Omani life between 1920 and 1970 through its holdings of utensils, household appliances, and old Omani furniture, and a traditional session for women and another for men.

The museum has become a very important cultural beacon in the Sultanate of Oman, as it is known for the heritage of the Sultanate and cooperates with various ministries, agencies and institutions in this field. It has been able to host a number of international events and contemporary art exhibitions, and has also participated in a group of international exhibitions around the world.
