Because of its pollution... Paris may keep Olympic swimmers away from the Seine River

ArabiaWeather - The organizers of the Paris Olympic Games are considering replacing the Seine River as the site of the main swimming event if its pollution continues in the coming weeks, according to the newspaper "The Telegraph". Tony Estanget, president of the Paris Olympic Committee, reported that the marathon swimming race will be moved to Lake Vue Fayre. Sur Marne, outside the capital, if efforts to clean up the river do not produce the desired results before the competition begins.

In his remarks, Estanget reiterated his position expressed in April that he was optimistic about the possibility of using the Seine, but indicated the possibility of a “final decision” not to swim in the river, a situation that “we want to avoid, of course.”

Bacteria levels were above acceptable limits for exercise in the Seine River

Preparing the Seine for triathlons and marathon swimming was a huge and expensive project, costing more than a billion euros. The river has been off-limits to swimmers since the early 1920s due to high levels of bacteria, and sewage problems caused the cancellation of a pre-Olympic swimming event last summer and as early as May. (May), tests revealed that bacteria levels were above acceptable limits for exercise.

But on Thursday, some encouraging results showed an improvement in the water quality of the Seine River, according to published data. The data showed that concentrations of harmful bacteria were below legal limits on 6 out of 9 days between June 24 and July 2.

However, water quality depends heavily on rainfall and water temperature between now and the July 26-August 1 event period. With the weather improving this week in Paris, water quality is expected to remain acceptable, but organizers have confirmed that there is a backup option in Fairs-sur-Marne if the situation deteriorates.
