And the Director of Agriculture of the Northern Aghwar Brigade, Eng. Muwaffaq Abu Sahyoun, stated that the fall of the fruits included most of the citrus varieties, from oranges, lemons, clementines, mandalines, and the fading of their leaves.
Citrus farmers in the northern Jordan Valley complained that large quantities of the fruits of their farms had fallen due to the heat wave; What led to the low productivity of their farms and poor financial returns in the next citrus season, calling on the Ministry of Agriculture to limit the damages and give them loans without interest and increase the amounts of irrigation water.
It is noteworthy that the area of citrus cultivation in the northern Jordan Valley amounts to about 60,000 dunums, or 82% of the Kingdom's production.
The Minister of Environment and the Minister of Agriculture in charge, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, confirmed that starting procedures for expanding the umbrella of the agricultural risks covered by the risk fund that currently covers frost damage only, to include all types of agricultural risks, and also to start establishing a cooperative solidarity program to enable farmers from agricultural insurance tools to protect investment in the sector .
