ArabiaWeather.com- France has begun experimenting with paying commuters to work by bike for six months to promote bike use with the aim of improving health, reducing air pollution and reducing fossil fuel consumption, joining other European governments doing the same.
Many countries, including the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Belgium and Britain, implement programs to encourage going to work by bicycle through incentives such as tax exemptions, payment of money according to the number of kilometers and financial support for the purchase of bicycles.
In a statement by the French Ministry of Transport, it said that about 20 companies and institutions employing ten thousand people in total agreed to pay 25 euros, or 34 US cents, to their employees for every kilometer they cycled to go to work.
French Transport Minister Frederic Cuvilliers said that the use of public transport is already supported, and if the experiment succeeds with bicycles, another experiment will be applied on a larger scale.
