Weather of Arabia - Al-Qassim National Park in the city of Buraidah witnessed the first birth of the Arabian Oryx, which was launched in cooperation with the National Center for Wildlife Development, as part of a program aimed at multiplying and resettling endangered fungal organisms in national parks and natural reserves, while preserving their habitats within vegetation areas. .

The National Center for Wildlife Development expressed through its account on the X platform, saying:

“The baby Arabian Oryx decorates Qassim National Park as one of the fruits of cooperation and integration between the National Center for Wildlife Development and the National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification.”

Arabian oryx

In 1972, the Arabian oryx, a species of antelope that lives in the wild, was threatened with extinction as a result of poaching practices. A small number of this species lived in the American Phoenix Zoo, and in places caring for rare animals in Saudi Arabia, making it the first animal to be saved from extinction in the wild. The Arabian Oryx is distinguished by the length of its horns, which can reach one meter, and it can roam 75 kilometers a day in search of food. This species is known to have a “sixth sense”, as Arabian oryx sense the location of incoming rain and move towards it to drink. They also feed on plants that thrive in humid conditions, such as acacia.

The 15- to 20-year-old oryx are a major source of food for predators living in the Arabian Peninsula, including striped hyenas, Arabian wolves, and lynxes.
