ArabiaWeather.com - Mohamed Salama - Denmark plans through its capital, Copenhagen , to become a carbon-neutral city by 2025, which will make it the world's first carbon-neutral capital.
The Danish government has developed many strategies to this end, and the energy strategy includes a set of initiatives that will reduce the energy industry's use of fossil fuels by 33 percent until 2020, and this reduction will put Denmark on its way to complete independence from fossil fuels by 2025.
The strategy calls for a significant increase in renewable energy obtained from wind and biogas, and this will make the Scandinavian country over time get rid of energy sources derived from oil derivatives, which produce carbon emissions harmful to the environment.
Electricity generated by wind turbines currently covers 20% of the electrical energy in Denmark, while the country plans to raise the percentage to 40% by 2020.
