Deaths from heart disease have doubled due to global warming

Weather of Arabia - Experts in the field of climate change have warned of an escalation in the risk of deaths related to cardiovascular diseases in light of increasing temperatures as a result of global climate change over the next half century.

Scientists expect that if efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are unsuccessful, deaths related to cardiovascular diseases, which are affected by temperature increases, will increase by up to 233% over the next 13 to 47 years.

High temperatures increase the death rate

A study conducted by a research team at the American Heart Association revealed that there is a noticeable increase in death rates among the elderly, as the death rate from cardiovascular diseases in the United States could reach more than double the current death rates. This surge in deaths is attributed to rising temperatures.

The study stressed the need to adopt more stringent policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in order to reduce the number of deaths associated with temperature extremes. The United States currently sees one death every 33 seconds as a result of cardiovascular disease, which includes a group of conditions that affect the heart and blood vessels.

Extreme heat affects public health

The study showed that the trajectory of greenhouse gas emissions in the coming decades will play a critical role in the impact of extreme heat conditions on public health. It was found that extreme heat conditions in the United States between 2008 and 2019 resulted in an additional 1,651 deaths from cardiovascular disease each summer.

The research team, which conducted the study in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania, analyzed county-by-county data in the United States from 2008 to 2017. They found a clear association between an increased number of extreme heat days and an increased death rate from cardiovascular disease.

It was pointed out that these previous data formed the basis of the current study, in which models were used to project future greenhouse gas emissions, as well as expected trends in the social, economic, and demographic aspects of the population in the United States in the period from 2036 to 2065.
