About 12 hours later, another earthquake - with almost the same strength - struck the region 130 kilometers to the north, leaving a large number of victims and causing destruction in and around Gaziantep, in addition to northwestern Syria, specifically the city of Aleppo.
Despite the severe earthquake that caused panic and destruction in southern Turkey and northern Syria, a cold and dry air mass has been concentrated over Turkey for several days, extending towards Syria and the rest of the countries of the eastern basin of the Mediterranean.
During the daytime hours, very cold weather prevailed, and bitter cold during the night in the areas affected by the violent earthquake, and the weather forecast staff at the Arab Regional Weather Center expects the deepening of the cold air mass to southern Turkey and northern Syria.
Amid expectations of recording temperatures below zero degrees Celsius, by about 4-9 degrees Celsius, in the Gaziantep region and its environs, while temperatures in the north of the Syrian territories, including Aleppo, will range from 0 to -4 degrees Celsius below zero.
